A 007 Site Atop the Alps

The panoramic views of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau make this visit more than worthwhile! Whether you're a cinephile, a hiker, or just fancy a fun day in the alps, this one is for you.

Bond fans will recognize this summit from the 1969 James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, starring George Lazenby. Even if you aren't a fan of the James Bond franchise, you'll love this experience.

A 007 Site Atop the Swiss Alps

Even if you aren’t a fan of Bond, this is a must visit!

You'll need a clear day because this one is high in the Swiss Alps and the clouds can quickly remove all of the views! We've been once, and here's how we did it! Be sure to check the SBB.ch trainable to verify everything matches your itinerary. While the trains are incredibly reliable, there is an occasional timetable change.

The Highlights!

Birg at 2677m (8783ft)

This half-way stop between Mürren and Piz Gloria is more than a stop! In Birg is where you'll find the Thrill Walk, Skyline Walk, photogenic overlooks, and Bistro Birg.

We stopped in for a quick visit to the panoramic deck. The views are astonishing, and it's worth the quick visit en route to Schilthorn! We stopped on the way down, but it may have been wiser to visit on the way up for the more gradual altitude adjustment!

Piz Gloria at 2970 m (9744 ft)

We spent just 20 minutes at Piz Gloria, just enough time to get some great photos and for me to walk the brief 007 Walk of Fame. Chanel had a bit of an issue with the altitude and was too dizzy to stay for long!

The views from Piz Gloria are incredible, and it's a significant change in temperature! It was a warm morning in Lauterbrunnen, and I walked in the snow atop Schilthorn!

A Scenic Lunch at Hotel Alpenruh

While you can dine at Piz Gloria's 360° Restaurant, you can find better food in Mürren! We recommend the Hotel Alpenruh for lunch!

What to order? Keep it classic! Or that's what I always do! The Rosti here is fantastic and pairs perfectly with the local beer, Rugen Bräu. The food here is excellent, and the view into Lauterbrunnen Valley is incredible!

A Post Lunch Walk

After a delicious lunch at Hotel Alpenruh, we were due for a walk! After a couple of Rugen Bräu, I was up for anything!

Follow the clearly-marked trail signs down to Gimmelwald and catch the cable-car to Stechelberg. It's a 2.4km walk, roughly 40 minutes, with a descent of 262m! Be sure to time it so you can make your way down. I would recommend an hour. The views are amazing, and you'll want to take some pictures so don't rush it!

Once you arrive at Gimmelwald, it's a steep yet smooth descent down to the valley where you're welcomed with Stechelberg Falls and the Lauterbrunnen Valley's stunning views. Catch the bus at Stechelberg back to Lauterbrunnen and then to your next destination!
